
<p><strong>Mithun Chakraborty Notice:</strong> Veteran Bollywood actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty is once again in the headlines. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued him a show-cause notice for illegal construction.</p>



<p>Reports suggest that some construction work was carried out without permission at Chakraborty&#8217;s bungalow in Erangal village, Malad. BMC officials, after an investigation, found violations of building regulations, leading to the issuance of the notice.</p>



<p>The notice, issued on 10 May, cites various sections of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act regarding illegal construction.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">BMC Alleges Violation of Regulations</h2>



<p>The BMC alleges that two ground-plus-mezzanine floor structures, a ground floor structure, and three temporary units were constructed without permission. These temporary structures, featuring brickwork, wooden planks, glass walls, and AC sheet roofing, are considered violations of municipal building regulations.</p>



<p>The BMC has warned that if a satisfactory response is not received within the stipulated time, legal action will be taken under Section 475A, and the illegal construction may be demolished.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Mithun Chakraborty: I Have Not Carried Out Any Illegal Construction</h2>



<p>After receiving the notice from the BMC, the actor stated, “I have not carried out any illegal construction. Notices have been sent to many people, and we are sending our response to the BMC.”</p>



<p>However, social activist Nadeem Sheikh questioned why Chakraborty&#8217;s construction was spared when 24 illegal structures were recently demolished.</p>



<p>The BMC clarified that a total of 101 illegal structures in Erangal and surrounding areas will be demolished by the end of May.</p>



<p>This is not the first time Mithun Chakraborty has received a BMC notice for such a matter. In 2011, he was also issued a similar notice regarding illegal construction.</p>



<p>It is noteworthy that Mithun Chakraborty owns luxurious property including a farmhouse, hotels, and several bungalows in Mumbai, Kolkata, and Ooty. Meanwhile, the BMC team is continuously taking action against illegal constructions in Mumbai.</p>

<p>Recent events between India and Pakistan over the past month are well-known. The Pahalgam Terrorist Attack on 22 April resulted in 26 deaths and 20 injuries. Pakistani terrorists were responsible for this attack. In response, India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ in the early hours of 7 May, destroying nine terrorist bases in Pakistan. For context, Maryam is the daughter of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif (Nawaz Sharif) and serves as the Chief Minister of Punjab province in Pakistan.</p>

<p>Maryam also criticised the opposition, specifically Imran Khan’s (Imran Khan) PTI (PTI) party, which is currently in opposition. She stated that the damage inflicted by India and the damage caused by the opposition party on 9 May were comparable. It is worth noting that on 9 May 2023, Imran Khan’s supporters rioted nationwide following his arrest. These riots involved arson, widespread destruction, and significant damage to public property. Over 3,000 of Imran Khan’s supporters were subsequently arrested.</p>

<p>Weather Havoc in MP: A dust storm and rain brought relief from the intense heat to city dwellers. The maximum temperature plummeted from 44.6°C to 39.4°C. This alleviated the scorching heat, but humidity increased. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for another severe dust storm and heavy rain in the next 48 hours. There is also a possibility of dust storms and rain during the &#8216;Nautpa&#8217; period.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Sudden Weather Change After Intense Heat</h2>



<p>Since 15 May, the city has been experiencing hot winds from Rajasthan. As a result, the temperature was recorded between 43°C and 44.6°C. For six hours a day, the sky seemed to rain fire. People were distressed by the heat. Wednesday was also extremely hot, and hot winds continued throughout the night. The heat led to a change in the weather. A dust storm with speeds of 72 kilometres per hour swept through. The city received 11 millimetres of rain, while Dabra received 43 millimetres. The rain increased humidity in the air. The hot winds from Rajasthan also subsided. Because of this, the temperature dropped below 40°C, 2.9°C below normal. The night temperature was 5.5°C below normal.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Cyclonic Circulation Near the Region</strong></h2>



<p>Currently, two cyclonic circulations have formed. The first is near the Himalayas. The second is near the Gwalior-Chambal division. A trough line is passing through Haryana and Punjab. This increases the likelihood of deteriorating weather.</p>



<p>The wind coming from Rajasthan has subsided. Because of this, the temperature will not increase much. It is likely to reach between 41°C and 42°C.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Dust Storms at 60-70 KM/h in 40 MP Districts</h2>



<p>According to the Meteorological Department, an alert has been issued for dust storms and rain in more than 40 districts, including Bhopal and Indore. Of these, 16 districts are expected to experience dust storm speeds of 60 km/h or more. A heatwave alert has been issued for 8 districts.</p>



<p>Among these 40 districts, strong winds and rain are likely in Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Jabalpur, Satna, Rewa, Mauganj, Sidhi, Singrauli, Panna, Maihar, Umaria, Shahdol, Katni, Damoh, Sagar, Narsinghpur, Raisen, Vidisha, Sehore, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Dewas, Dhar and Ratlam.</p>



<p>However, in the Gwalior-Chambal region (Sheopur, Morena, Bhind, Datia, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur), an alert has been issued for dust storms at 60-70 km/h due to the cyclone. In Jhabua, Alirajpur, Barwani, Khargone, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Harda, Narmadapuram, Betul, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, Dindori and Anuppur, there may be dust storms of 50-60 km/h and light rain.</p>

<p>US President Donald Trump on Thursday banned international students from enrolling at Harvard University. Trump administration Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem ordered the department to terminate Harvard&#8217;s Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification. Following this, Harvard will no longer be able to admit international students. Furthermore, foreign students studying at Harvard will have to transfer or risk losing their legal status.</p>



<p>Noem stated that the Harvard campus has become a hub for violence, antisemitism, and collaboration with the Chinese Communist Party. In April, Noem warned Harvard that its certification would only be maintained if it complied with US immigration laws. The Trump administration has also taken several steps against international students who protested against the Gaza war. These students had their visas revoked and were deported, accused of supporting the terrorist organisation Hamas.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Retaliatory and Illegal Action &#8211; Harvard University</h2>



<p>Harvard University has described the Trump administration&#8217;s order as illegal and retaliatory. The university stated in a press release that this poses a serious threat to the institution. &#8220;We are fully committed to maintaining our ability to host international students and scholars from over 140 countries and enrich the university,&#8221; the statement read. &#8220;The government&#8217;s action undermines Harvard&#8217;s academic and research mission.&#8221;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Federal Grants Withheld in April-May</h2>



<p>The Trump administration cut Harvard&#8217;s funding by $2.2 billion (₹18,729 crore) in March-April and a further $450 million (₹3,831 crore) in mid-May. In a letter sent to Harvard at the time of the May cut, the federal government stated that Harvard had become a hub of discrimination and misconduct and would have to struggle hard to regain its legacy of academic excellence.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Inciting Anti-Semitic Sentiments</h2>



<p>Accusing the university of inciting anti-Semitic sentiments and holding pro-Palestinian demonstrations, the Trump administration demanded that Harvard make sweeping changes to its administration, revise its admissions policies, and conduct an audit of its faculty and students. At the same time, President Trump threatened to revoke Harvard&#8217;s tax exemption and its accreditation to admit foreign students.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">788 Students from India</h2>



<p>Founded in 1636, Harvard University is the oldest institution of higher education in the United States. In the last academic year, approximately 30% of Harvard&#8217;s nearly 22,000 full-time enrolments were international students. After China and Canada, India has the largest number of students. In the 2024-25 academic year, around 788 Indian students and researchers are studying at Harvard, with 321 students enrolling that year. Students from over 125 countries worldwide study at Harvard.</p>

<p>Amrit Bharat Station Scheme: The sweeping changes at railway stations across India are transforming them into rivals for airports. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated 103 Amrit stations for public use. These Amrit stations represent a significant step towards modernising railway infrastructure. The Amrit Station scheme aims to provide modern amenities while preserving and showcasing local heritage. The design of the redeveloped station buildings is inspired by local culture, heritage, and architecture.</p>



<p>The Dharwad railway station in Hubballi district, Karnataka, has been redeveloped under the Amrit Station scheme. This station strengthens Dharwad&#8217;s academic and cultural identity, given its proximity to Karnataka University, agricultural universities, Nuggekeri Hanuman Temple, Murugha Mutt, and Unkal Lake. Meanwhile, Ahmedabad station is themed around the Modhera Sun Temple, Dwarka station around the Dwarkadhish Temple, Odisha&#8217;s Balasore station around the Jagannath Temple, and Gurugram station around IT. The argument escalated to the point where the enraged wife severed her husband&#8217;s genitals and then consumed acid. Both husband and wife have been admitted to the hospital in critical condition following this sensational incident.</p>

<p>It is reported that a heated argument occurred between the wife and husband at home on Wednesday night. In a fit of rage, the woman cut off her husband&#8217;s genitals. Given the husband&#8217;s critical condition, his family immediately rushed him to the hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Shortly after this painful incident, the woman also injured herself by drinking acid kept at home, worsening her condition. She has been admitted to the district hospital in Moradabad.</p>

<p>The hospitalised woman has alleged that she has been married for four years and that since her marriage, her in-laws have been harassing her for dowry. <p><strong>Indian Players who flopped despite big price:</strong> The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is in its final stages. Only six league matches remain, and four teams have already qualified for the playoffs: Gujarat Titans (GT), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Punjab Kings (PBKS), and Mumbai Indians (MI).</p>



<p>However, some teams underperformed this season. A major reason for their failure was the average performance of their star players, especially those acquired for crores of rupees in the mega auction. <p>Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for a whopping ₹10 crore in this season&#8217;s mega auction. It was hoped that his experience and ability to swing the new ball would make him a key weapon for SRH. But Shami failed miserably this season.</p>



<p>In the 9 matches he played, Shami took only 6 wickets. His bowling average was a poor 56.16, while his economy rate was a worrying 11.23 runs per over. Due to consistently disappointing performances, the team management dropped him from the playing XI in recent matches. Shami&#8217;s season has been disappointing for both SRH and its fans.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Ishan Kishan (Sunrisers Hyderabad) — ₹11.25 crore</h2>



<p>Ishan Kishan, who smashed a whirlwind century at the start of IPL 2025, had high expectations throughout the season. Sunrisers Hyderabad bought him for a hefty ₹11.25 crore. But after his initial explosive performance, Ishan couldn&#8217;t regain his form, and his season was mediocre.</p>



<p>He scored only 231 runs in 11 innings across 12 matches, at a modest average of 25.67. His strike rate was 140.85, reflecting his aggressive style, but a lack of consistency in scoring runs was evident. Despite the high price tag and responsibility, Ishan failed to lead his team to the top, causing SRH to suffer at crucial moments.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Venkatesh Iyer (Kolkata Knight Riders) — ₹23.75 crore</h2>



<p>Venkatesh Iyer&#8217;s bid in the IPL 2025 mega auction surprised everyone. KKR re-signed him for a record ₹23.75 crore, putting immense pressure on him to perform. But the middle-order batsman&#8217;s bat remained very subdued throughout the season.</p>



<p>Iyer scored only 142 runs in 7 innings, at an average of 20.28 and a strike rate of 139.21. His individual scores of 6, 3, 60, 45, 7, 14, and 7 show that he only made an impact in two innings, struggling for the rest. Despite the huge sum, the team was only left disappointed by his performance. It was expected that he would stabilise the innings or score quickly in the middle order, but he lacked consistency and big scores.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants) — ₹27 crore</h2>



<p>Rishabh Pant, the most expensive player in IPL 2025, was bought by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for ₹27 crore. The franchise hoped that Pant would not only win matches with the bat but also lead the team as an inspirational captain. But this season proved extremely disappointing for both Pant and LSG.</p>



<p>In terms of batting, Pant scored only 151 runs in 13 matches at an average of 13.72 and a strike rate of 107.09. These figures are shocking for a player once considered among Team India&#8217;s most explosive batsmen. His bat remained silent throughout the season, and he didn&#8217;t play any impactful innings.</p>



<p>Pant also failed as captain. LSG had a good start to the tournament, but the team lost at crucial moments and was eliminated from the playoff race. A lack of strategic decisions and Pant&#8217;s individual performance failure severely hampered the team&#8217;s prospects.</p>

<p><strong>Rishabh Pant in heated debate with journalist:</strong> Following Lucknow Super Giants&#8217; (LSG) poor performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, team captain Rishabh Pant engaged in a heated online debate with a journalist. The controversy erupted when a journalist claimed that the team management was considering releasing Pant before the upcoming season. This entire incident unfolded hours before the group-stage match between Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.</p>



<p>LSG acquired Rishabh Pant in the mega auction for a whopping ₹27 crore, the highest amount ever paid for a player in IPL history. However, Pant&#8217;s season has been extremely disappointing. <p>Rishabh Pant wrote on X, ‘I understand that fake news helps content gain more attention, but we shouldn&#8217;t build everything around it. Let&#8217;s be responsible and sensible about what we post on social media.’</p>



<p>Following Pant&#8217;s response, opinions on social media were divided. Some praised his courage and accountability, while many users criticised his poor performance. So far, the Lucknow Super Giants management has not issued any official statement regarding Rishabh Pant, further fueling speculation.</p>

<p><strong>Jobs in UP:</strong> The Uttar Pradesh government is creating new employment opportunities for young people. The Uttar Pradesh government has approved the filling of educational and non-educational posts in 71 new government degree colleges across the state. Following an announcement by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Higher Education Department has completed the process of filling various positions for these colleges. According to the new approval, each college will have a principal, meaning a total of 71 principals will be appointed. In addition, a total of 1136 Assistant Professors will be recruited across these colleges statewide. 71 posts of Library Lecturers have also been created. Thus, a total of 1207 educational posts have been created.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Jobs In UP: 142 Class III posts will also be filled</h2>



<p>In addition to educational posts, 142 Class III posts have also been created, which the state government will fill through promotion. Two Class III employees will be placed in each college. Senior Assistants and Junior Assistants will benefit from the promotion, provided they have completed five years of service, respectively. Additionally, 10 Class IV employees will also be appointed in each college, who will be hired through outsourcing. Thus, a total of 710 Class IV employees are being arranged in 71 colleges. These will include laboratory assistants, office assistants, watchmen, sanitation workers, library assistants, etc.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Assistant Professor Vacancy: Principal Secretary issues order to fill posts</h2>



<p>The Principal Secretary, Higher Education, M.P. Agrawal, has issued an order to fill the posts. The selection process will be through the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC). Graduation courses like BA, BSc, and BCom are expected to commence soon in these colleges.</p>

<p><strong>Senior Citizen Pilgrimage: Chittorgarh:</strong> Preparations have begun for the Department of Devasthan&#8217;s senior citizen pilgrimage scheme for the year 2025-2026. The application process will commence next month. Simultaneously, the department is updating the application portal; this work will be completed within ten days.</p>



<p>According to sources, the pilgrimage will begin before July this year due to an expected increase in the number of pilgrims. An earlier start will facilitate the achievement of the target by the end of the financial year. Instructions have also been issued regarding the cleanliness, decoration, and clear signage at pilgrimage sites for trains used in the pilgrimage. This aims to provide pilgrims with better information about their destinations and promote Rajasthan tourism.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Pilgrimage Destinations</h2>



<p>This year&#8217;s pilgrimage will include prominent sites such as Trimbakeshwar, Dasmeshwar, Goa, and Agra. Under the 2025-2026 pilgrimage scheme, 6,000 senior citizens will travel to various pilgrimage sites by air, and 50,000 will travel by AC train. The trains will have special designs.</p>



<p>Each train compartment will feature images of various Rajasthan temples, forts, tourist sites, and sanctuaries. Folk dances, festivals, folk art, and glimpses of Teej festivals will be depicted across 14 compartments. Designs with different themes are being prepared.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Application Commencement</h2>



<p>In previous years, many elderly individuals were not interested in visiting certain locations. Therefore, this year, the churches of Goa have been included. The application process will begin next month. 50,000 senior citizens will undertake the pilgrimage by AC train. Complete ease and comfort will be ensured during the journey. For the first time, all senior citizens will travel by such a train. The train&#8217;s decoration will also be noteworthy.</p>

<p><strong>India U19 squad for England:</strong> Emerging stars from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre, have been included in India&#8217;s Under-19 team for the upcoming tour of England. Both players showcased exceptional performances for their respective teams in this year&#8217;s tournament.</p>



<p>Mhatre will captain the team. The tour, spanning from 24 June to 23 July, comprises a 50-over practice match, a five-match Youth ODI series, and two multi-day matches against England Under-19. Abhigyan Kundu from Mumbai has been appointed his vice-captain.</p>



<p>Suryavanshi garnered significant attention by scoring the youngest-ever century in the IPL at just 14 years of age. Rajasthan Royals purchased him for ₹1.1 crore in last year&#8217;s auction. This season, he amassed 252 runs in seven matches, including a century and a half-century.</p>



<p>Meanwhile, Mhatre was added to the Chennai Super Kings squad mid-season due to an injury to captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. The 17-year-old Mumbai opener scored 206 runs in six matches, including a top score of 94 against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. He significantly bolstered Chennai&#8217;s weak batting unit.</p>



<p>This duo was also part of India&#8217;s runner-up team in the Under-19 Asia Cup held in the UAE last year. Other key selections include Punjab batsman Vihan Malhotra and Kerala leg-spinner Mohammed Anan, who impressed against Australia in the 2024 youth series in Chennai and Puducherry.</p>
