UP police leave cancelled, alert issued in Bihar, Maharashtra and other states

Tension is mounting across India over the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. Even before its presentation in the Lok Sabha on 2 April 2025, anticipated protests have put police forces in several states on high alert. Security has been tightened in major states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh. Police leave has been cancelled, and officers on leave have been recalled to duty. The government is taking no chances, given the opposition from Muslim organisations and opposition parties, leading to widespread arrangements to maintain law and order across the nation.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Heightened Surveillance in Uttar Pradesh</h2>



Uttar Pradesh is showing the most vigilance regarding the Waqf Amendment Bill. The state&#8217;s DGP has ordered all police officers and personnel to remain vigilant. Police conducted flag marches in Varanasi, Lucknow, Kanpur, and other sensitive cities the previous night to prevent any untoward incidents. Sensitive areas are being monitored using drones, and CCTV cameras are tracking all activity. Following reports of inflammatory posts and threats against the bill on social media, the police have also activated their cyber cells. A heavy police presence has been deployed, particularly outside areas like Kanpur&#8217;s orphanage, where protests are anticipated.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">High Alert in Bihar</h2>



In Bihar too, the police administration has geared up in anticipation of potential protests against the Waqf Bill. The deployment of security forces has been increased in Patna and other major cities. Organisations like the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) have already staged large protests against the bill, joined by opposition leaders such as Tejashwi Yadav and Lalu Prasad Yadav. Given the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar, this issue has become even more sensitive. Police have deployed additional forces and intensified patrolling in sensitive areas to prevent any unrest.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Drone and CCTV Surveillance in Maharashtra</h2>



Amidst apprehension of tension over the Waqf Bill, Maharashtra police have taken stringent measures. Security has been tightened in cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur. Mumbai police have begun surveillance using CCTV cameras in sensitive areas, and drones are also being deployed. A flag march was conducted in parts of Mumbai the previous night to reassure citizens and send a strong message to anti-social elements. Given the existing opposition to the bill from Muslim organisations in the state, the police are taking no chances.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Police Preparedness Across the Nation</h2>



Besides Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Maharashtra, police in Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, and other states are also on alert. Additional police forces have been deployed in sensitive locations like Jantar Mantar in Delhi, where protests against the bill have taken place before. Several states have formed special teams to monitor social media to prevent the spread of rumours and inflammatory content. This step has been taken because the AIMPLB and other organisations have announced peaceful protests against the bill.

A man died under suspicious circumstances at Arjun police station in Chhattisgarh. Police had brought him from Rajnandgaon for questioning in connection with a ₹7.73 crore fraud case involving farmers. The deceased, Durghesh Katholia (41), had injury marks on his body. His family alleges that the police demanded a bribe of ₹50 lakh. Following the incident, Arjun TI Sunny Dubey has been suspended with immediate effect.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">CG News: Crores of Rupees Defrauded from Over 50 Farmers</h2>



A post-mortem examination was conducted in the presence of Chief Judicial Magistrate Namita Minj Bhaskar. It is noteworthy that the TI had previously faced allegations of assault. According to reports, Durghesh Katholia (41), a resident of Bhanwarmara village in Rajnandgaon district, was taken into custody from his village on 29 March by Dhamtari police. More than 50 farmers have filed a complaint at Arjun police station accusing him of defrauding them of ₹7.73 crore.



The deceased&#8217;s father, Lakshman Katholia, mother, Sushila Katholia, and wife, Durga Katholia, stated that their son was brutally beaten when taken from their home. They later received news of his death. Upon reaching Dhamtari, they were initially prevented from seeing the body. After permission for a post-mortem was granted, they found injury marks on his legs, shoulders, ribs, abdomen, thighs, and other parts of his body. They allege that their son was already dead before they were informed.



Police claim that Durghesh&#8217;s health deteriorated. They state that the accused was arrested at 4:20 PM on 31 March and presented before the court. Subsequently, he was taken into police remand. While being taken to the police station at 6 PM, his health deteriorated, and he was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Hospital Protest</h2>



As soon as news of Durgesh’s death reached the family, they rushed to Dhamtari. The family accused the police of brutally beating him and demanded action against Arjuni TI and the officers involved in his detention. The hospital remained tense from noon to 5 p.m. MLA Omkar Sahu, the district president, and other Congress leaders also arrived at the hospital.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Details of the Case</h2>



CG News: Police reported that the accused, Durghesh Katholia, a resident of Bhanwarmara, defrauded farmers of a total of ₹7.73 crore by promising to sell their paddy at higher prices. Investigations revealed that he had committed similar frauds in Balod, Rajnandgaon, Gariaband, and Balaghat. A prior case has been registered against him at Basantpur police station in Rajnandgaon.



Manishankar Chandra, ASP: The SP has suspended Arjun police station in-charge Sunny Dubey. The cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem report. A magisterial inquiry is underway.

Good News for Pregnant Women and Malnourished Children: Malnourished children will now receive 25 grams of milk powder five days a week, incorporated into their nutritional supplements. Pregnant women will receive a Supposhan Nutri Kit containing 1 kg of ghee, along with makhana (fox nuts), dates, and other nutritious items. The Women and Child Development Department has begun preparations and submitted the budget proposal to the Finance Department. Officials expect the increased milk powder for children and the kits for pregnant women to be distributed from July.



Currently, the department provides malnourished children with 15 grams of milk powder as part of their nutritional supplements. Last month, the Chief Minister announced an increase of 10 grams, prompting the department to process the necessary paperwork. Upon approval, malnourished children will receive 25 grams of milk powder. Approximately 70,000 malnourished children aged 6 months to 5 years will benefit from this initiative. Officials estimate an annual expenditure of approximately ₹3.5 crore.



Malnourished children will now receive 25 grams of milk powder instead of 15 grams, along with their nutritional supplements. Pregnant women will receive a Supposhan Nutri Kit containing ghee, dates, makhana (fox nuts), and other items. Preparations for this initiative have commenced.

Each kit will contain 1 kg of ghee, along with 500 grams of dates, makhana (fox nuts), roasted chickpeas and peanuts, fortified rice, milk powder, and jaggery. These kits will be provided twice during the 5th to 9th months of pregnancy. Officials estimate that this initiative will benefit approximately 2.5 lakh pregnant women at a cost of approximately ₹25 crore.

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has released the admit cards for the class 10th and 12th board examinations. Stephen Fleming on MS Dhoni: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a six-wicket defeat against Rajasthan Royals in the 11th match of IPL 2025. When Dhoni came to bat at number 7, CSK needed 54 runs from 25 balls. Dhoni could only manage 16 runs from 11 balls, and CSK lost the match. After the match, CSK coach Stephen Fleming revealed that MS cannot bat at full strength for 10 overs due to a knee problem. CSK also lost to RCB by 50 runs in Chepauk. In that match, Dhoni faced criticism for batting at number 9. Now, a shocking report claims that, according to the coach, Dhoni will only play six more matches this season.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">‘His knees aren’t what they used to be’</h2>



After the loss against Rajasthan Royals, Fleming said that it&#8217;s a matter of time. Dhoni himself assesses this. His body, his knees, aren&#8217;t what they used to be. Although he is able to move properly, there is also a nutritional aspect. Therefore, he cannot bat at full strength for 10 overs.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">‘Bringing him in at the 9th or 10th over isn’t appropriate’</h2>



He said that if the match is balanced, he will go for batting first, and there will also be opportunities when he will support other players. I also said last year that MS is valuable to us, his leadership and wicket-keeping skills, but bringing him in at the 9th or 10th over isn&#8217;t appropriate. He is trying to score runs after the 13th-14th over.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Dhoni to play only 6 more matches</h2>



Meanwhile, a report released on OneCricket&#8217;s official Instagram account states that CSK coach Stephen Fleming said, &#8220;I spoke with MS last night, and we discussed his future role in CSK. We concluded that he will only remain in Chepauk for the remainder of the season.&#8221;



This means he will only play six more matches this season. Currently, Chennai Super Kings have 11 out of 14 league matches remaining, of which 6 will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai. No knockout matches will be played in Chepauk.

Sikandar Collection Day 3: Salman Khan&#8217;s film ‘Sikandar’ has completed three days at the box office. Released on 30 March, the film&#8217;s budget was evident from its trailer and teaser. However, its earnings since release have been significantly lower than anticipated. The film failed to make a strong impression even on its opening day, and the third-day collection was extremely disappointing. The audience response appears to be underwhelming, with viewers expressing disappointment with Salman&#8217;s performance and the storyline. This is why the film&#8217;s earnings have declined even after Eid. According to Sacnilk, the film ‘Sikandar’ earned less than ₹20 crore on Tuesday, the day after Eid.

According to Sacnilk data, Salman Khan&#8217;s ‘Sikandar’ has not received a positive audience response. Consequently, instead of an increase, the film&#8217;s collection has declined.
