According to data by the Election Commission at around 1 pm, BJP led in 47 constituencies and crossed the majority mark needed to win the 70-constituency-strong Delhi assembly election. While the AAP was shown ahead on 22 seats, the Congress failed to score a single victory. The majority mark to form the government in the national capital is 36.
Voting for Delhi’s 70 assembly seats occurred in a single phase on February 5. 699 candidates contested these 70 seats. The counting of votes began at 8:00 AM today, with initial trends emerging shortly thereafter. The picture will become clear by the afternoon.
Congress candidate from the New Delhi constituency, Sandeep Dikshit on Saturday conceded defeat, acknowledging that the BJP is likely to form the government in Delhi. Dikshit acknowledged that despite the party raising critical issues during the election campaign, voters may not have been convinced that Congress could form a government.
Aam Aadmi Party candidate Manish Sisodia on Saturday conceded his defeat from the Jangpura constituency to BJP candidate Tarvinder Singh Marwah in the Delhi elections. Speaking to the media, Sisodia asserted that the people have supported him really well and affirmed hope that the BJP’s candidate will work for the constituency.
