Spam Calls Survey

Spam Calls Survey

The problem of spam calls is increasing in India. Despite TRAI’s efforts, such cases are not decreasing. According to a recent LocalCircles survey, 95% of Indians are daily victims of unwanted calls and messages. The Do Not Disturb (DND) feature on phones is also not working. There has been a significant increase in such cases over the past six months. Scammers are also adopting new ways to cheat people.

DND feature not working

The Do Not Disturb feature provided by smartphone companies and telecom operators is also not effective in stopping spam calls and messages. Scammers are now adopting new ways to cheat people using fake calls and messages. Many people are being troubled by such scams daily. According to the survey, 77% of mobile users receive at least three such calls daily. These calls are related to home loans, credit cards, and other financial sectors. There has been a 66% increase in such cases over the past six months, which is a matter of concern.

TRAI’s warning

TRAI had instructed telecom companies to stop promotional messages, with a deadline of September 1. However, the deadline has now been extended to October 1, 2024. TRAI had stated that if any entity misuses its SIP/PRI lines for making spam calls, then all its telecom resources will be disconnected by its telecom service provider (TSP), and the number will be blacklisted. TRAI wants to curb fake and spam calls as soon as possible.
