<p>Reports indicate that the Israeli army intensified its attacks in Gaza since Saturday. According to the Israeli army, these attacks targeted Hamas militants. Monday&#8217;s attacks resulted in the deaths of 44 people, as reported by Gaza&#8217;s Civil Defence Agency. The majority of those killed were women and children, their bodies transported to hospitals by rescue workers.</p>

<p>The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a major operation in Delhi, arresting Dr. Amit Kumar Singal, an officer of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS), on charges of accepting a bribe of ₹45 lakh. The accused was apprehended from his residence.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Bribery Allegations and Complaint</h2>



<p>Dr. Amit Kumar Singal is accused of demanding a bribe of ₹45 lakh through an associate to settle an income tax notice. The complaint in this matter was filed by Sanam Kapoor, owner of the food franchise chain, La Pintos.</p>



<p>Sanam Kapoor stated that he was being harassed through government notices due to disagreements in his business. In 2017, Kapoor entered into a franchise agreement with Mumbai-based businessman Harsh Kotak. Harsh Kotak was allegedly a business partner with Dr. Amit&#8217;s mother.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Contract Dispute and Series of Notices</h2>



<p>Sanam Kapoor alleged that Harsh Kotak violated the franchise agreement by using cheaper raw materials. When Kapoor attempted to cancel the contract, he was pressured into repurchasing the same franchise for ₹1.6 crore, while its actual value was only ₹25 lakh.</p>



<p>Following this, Sanam Kapoor began receiving continuous notices from the Income Tax and Food Safety departments. Kapoor&#8217;s lawyer, Gagandeep Singh Jammu, alleged that Dr. Amit Kumar Singal demanded a bribe of ₹45 lakh to stop these notices.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">CBI Action and Arrest</h2>



<p>Distressed, Sanam Kapoor and his lawyer filed a complaint with the CBI. On 30 May, Harsh Kotak met Kapoor in Chandigarh and summoned him to Dr. Amit Kumar Singal&#8217;s Mohali residence the next day. The CBI was fully prepared beforehand.</p>



<p>On 31 May, as Kotak received ₹25 lakh from Kapoor, he was immediately arrested. That evening, Dr. Amit Kumar Singal was arrested from his Delhi residence. During the search, 2.5 kg of gold jewellery and ₹30 lakh in cash were recovered.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Further Action</h2>



<p>A case has been registered against Kotak and Singal in Chandigarh. Dr. Amit Kumar Singal will be presented before the Duty Magistrate on Sunday.</p>

<p><strong>Delhi Blast:</strong> A massive cylinder explosion in the Sunder Nagri area of Delhi on Saturday afternoon sent shockwaves through the entire region. Four people, including three young siblings, were critically injured in the incident. The incident occurred in a warehouse in K-Block, Nand Nagri, during the repair of a CNG cylinder.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What Happened?</h2>



<p>According to the police, at approximately 4:33 PM, Nand Nagri police station received a report of a CNG cylinder explosion. Police and fire department teams immediately arrived at the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident occurred during the repair of the cylinder in the warehouse, injuring a mechanic and three children. The injured were immediately admitted to a nearby hospital, where their condition is reported to be critical.</p>

<p>Locals reported that the explosion was so powerful that it shook nearby houses. One eyewitness said, “Suddenly, there was a loud bang and smoke started rising. Children and a man ran out screaming. Everyone was scared seeing this.” The fire department immediately took action and brought the fire under control, but significant damage had already been done.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Police and Administration Response</h2>



<p>Delhi Police have launched an investigation into the incident. Atul Garg, chief of Delhi Fire Services, stated that four fire engines were dispatched to the scene. The police are trying to ascertain the cause of the cylinder explosion and whether safety regulations were being followed in the warehouse.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Fear Among Locals</h2>



<p>The incident has instilled fear among residents of Sunder Nagri and Nand Nagri. People are demanding proper safety standards for the repair and storage of cylinders in warehouses. A local resident said, “Such warehouses should not be in residential areas. It’s a threat to us.”</p>

<p>Heavy rainfall since the onset of the monsoon has created flood-like situations in six northeastern Indian states. In Assam, eight people have died due to the rains, and 17 districts are affected by floods and landslides. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Assam, raising concerns. Over 800 people have been rescued from flood-affected areas in Manipur. Rainfall in Nepal is also impacting rivers in Bihar, where three rivers in the Seemanchal region are in spate. Rain continues in other parts of the country.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">SDRF Teams Deployed</h2>



<p>Guwahati, Assam&#8217;s largest city, is submerged due to heavy monsoon rains. Roads are inundated, with boats navigating the waterlogged streets. SDRF personnel are rescuing people trapped in the floods and moving them to safer locations.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Life Disrupted</h2>



<p>Heavy rains, floods, and landslides in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Mizoram have severely disrupted life. In Assam&#8217;s Sribhumi district, waterlogging has occurred in several areas due to excessive rainfall. The accumulated water on the roads has now reached people&#8217;s homes.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">IMD Issues Red Alert</h2>



<p>The meteorological department has warned of heavy rainfall due to a depression formed over Bangladesh. A red alert has been issued for Lower Subansiri, West Kameng, West Siang, Lohit, and Changlang districts of Arunachal Pradesh.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">28 Deaths Reported</h2>



<p>In the last 48 hours, at least 28 people have died due to floods and landslides caused by torrential rain in various northeastern Indian states. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed the heavy rainfall to a low-pressure area over Bangladesh, prompting a high alert in all affected states. Seven people died late Friday night in Arunachal Pradesh when a vehicle plunged into a gorge on National Highway 13 due to a landslide between Bana and Seppa in East Kameng district. In another incident, two people died due to a landslide in Lower Subansiri district.</p>


<p>The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Assam. Torrential rain in various states of Northeast India over the past 48 hours has resulted in floods and landslides, claiming at least 28 lives.</p>

<p><strong>Free Electricity in Rajasthan</strong>: A new formula for free electricity in Rajasthan (linked to the PM Suryagarh Yojana) will also include free smart meters. Consumers will not be charged a monthly meter fee of ₹75. DISCOMs will initially install 2 million meters out of 1.04 crore domestic consumers.</p>



<p>After intervention from the Chief Minister, the Finance Department has given its in-principle approval to the proposal from the Energy Department. This will save consumers over ₹540 crore. This will be a major relief once the official order is issued. The initial proposal had stipulated charging these consumers ₹75 per month for a minimum of three years. The state government will bear this amount and will reimburse the DISCOMs.</p>



<p>Meanwhile, the Energy Department has not yet been able to implement the guidelines for the new free electricity scheme, even though the state government released its formula on 27 March.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Scheme to be implemented soon</h2>



<p>The government intends that consumers receive the full benefit of the new free electricity scheme. This is why there is agreement on not charging for smart meters. The scheme will be implemented soon.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The new formula</h2>



<p>Each domestic consumer will be provided with a 1.1 kW solar panel. The government will pay for this as a subsidy to the DISCOMs. This will generate up to 150 units of electricity per month, free for consumers. Implementation will be phased over three years, until March 2028. Until then, those who do not join the new scheme will continue to receive existing subsidy benefits.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Currently providing ₹6,200 crore in free electricity</h2>



<p>The Rajasthan government is currently providing approximately ₹6200 crore annually in free electricity to domestic consumers.</p>



<p>The maximum discount per consumer is up to ₹562.50.</p>



<p>All registered domestic consumers are included in this scheme.</p>



<p>A few months ago, Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Prahlad Joshi, who visited Jaipur, raised questions about states providing free electricity.</p>



<p>Following this, the Rajasthan government formulated a new formula for free electricity.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Free electricity remains the focus</h2>



<p>–<strong>Up to 150 units consumption</strong>: Smart meters will be installed for these consumers, and a fee of ₹75 was initially decided. This meant that even consumers with zero bills would have to pay a meter charge. No other charges would apply. Now, in the new proposal, the bill will remain zero. The government intends that when 150 units of free electricity are announced, no other charges should be levied.</p>



<p>–<strong>Consumption above 150 units</strong>: These consumers will also not have to pay a meter fee. However, all such consumers will have to pay electricity duty, fixed charges, electricity duty, urban cess, and fuel surcharge. Currently, consumers consuming up to 200 units are not charged any other charges besides the electricity charge.</p>
