<p>The Assembly polls in Delhi are scheduled for 5 February, and the results will be announced on 8 February. On that day, it will be decided which party will form the government in Delhi. Meanwhile, no party is missing an opportunity to campaign. All parties are trying to woo voters with election promises. Today, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made a major promise to the public.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Free Electricity and Water for Tenants if Elected</h2>



<p>The Kejriwal government already provides free electricity and water to Delhi residents, offering up to 200 units of free electricity per month. Now, this benefit is set to extend to tenants. During a press conference, Kejriwal stated, “Across Delhi, we have provided free electricity and water. However, it is unfortunate that tenants do not benefit. Today, I want to announce that if our party wins the election and forms the government again, we will implement a system to provide free electricity and water to tenants.”</p>

Mahakumbh 2025: Hands raised for 16 years and swinging for six years – the Hathayoga of saints draws devotees&#39; attention


<p><strong>Maha kumbh 2025:</strong> The ongoing Maha kumbh in Prayagraj is witnessing saints and ascetics in various forms. Devotees, after taking a dip in the Sangam, are visiting the saints&#8217; camps to seek their blessings and witness their unique practices. A large number of devotees are coming to see the saints practising Hatha Yoga. Some perform it for world peace, while others for physical and mental balance. The Patrika team learned about the Hatha Yoga practices of some of these saints and ascetics:</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Hands Raised for 16 Years</h2>



<p>In the Juna Akhara, Karnapuri Maharaj has kept his hands raised for 16 years. When asked about the reason, Karnapuri Maharaj said he is doing this for world peace. He wants to establish Ram Rajya in the world and for everyone to live with love and brotherhood. He will end his Hatha Yoga practice once this is achieved.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Six Years on a Swing</h2>



<p>Rupeshpuri Maharaj has been living on a swing for six years. He rests on the swing itself. He explained that when he goes for the royal bath (Shahi Snan), he performs it while standing. He said he has been practising Hatha Yoga for 12 years and can extend it to 24 years or even for life.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Wearing 21 kg of Rudraksha</h2>



<p>Vashistha Giri Maharaj, seen wearing 21 kg of Rudraksha, is also present at the Mahakumbh. Vashistha Giri, who is engrossed in the worship of Lord Shiva, said that he started wearing Rudraksha in 2010 after receiving Guru Diksha. Initially, their weight was less, but it gradually increased.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Devotees are also reaching these ascetics</h2>



<p>—Ramesh Manjhi, popularly known as Kantewala Baba, has been lying on thorns for about 50 years.<br>—Amarjeet, a resident of Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh, has been growing barley on his head since 2021.<br>—Tarzan Baba from Madhya Pradesh has been living in this car for 35 years.</p>

<p>The Rajasthan section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is expected to be completed this year. 373 km of this expressway passes through Rajasthan, with approximately 35 km of work remaining. Authorities claim this remaining work will be finished by September. Upon completion, the travel time between Kota and Delhi will be reduced to just four hours.</p>



<p>According to NHAI officials, around 27 km of work between Sawai Madhopur-Dausa-Bundi is expected to be completed before April. Meanwhile, the construction of a tunnel near Kota is also expected to be completed by September. While the project was initially slated for completion in 2024, delays have been caused by difficulties encountered during tunnel construction and other issues.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Starting with eight lanes, expandable to twelve</h2>



<p>Currently, the expressway has eight lanes. However, it is designed to be expandable to twelve lanes in the future to accommodate increasing traffic. The NHAI has acquired land in a manner that will eliminate the need for further land acquisition if lane expansion becomes necessary. Currently, the maximum speed limit for light vehicles is 120 kmph, which may be increased to 140 kmph in the future.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Traffic first started on the Sohna-Dausa section</h2>



<p>Traffic on the expressway first commenced on the section between Sohna and Bhandarej near Dausa. This section was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi. Since then, work has been progressing rapidly.</p>



<p>The NHAI aims to complete the project by the end of this year or in the first quarter of next year, and subsequently open it to traffic. The Delhi-Mumbai distance via this expressway will be approximately 1386 km, with a claimed travel time of twelve hours.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Jaipur-Bandikui work also expected to be completed by March</h2>



<p>A four-lane expressway is also under construction to connect this expressway to Jaipur via Bandikui. This work is expected to be completed by March.</p>


<p>Delhi-Mumbai Expressway: A 373 km stretch of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway passes through Rajasthan. However, some work remains to be completed, which is expected to be finished soon.</p>

<p><strong>Sanchar Saathi:</strong> The Department of Telecommunications launched the &#8216;Sanchar Saathi&#8217; mobile app on Friday to curb fraudulent and deceptive calls. A website version was launched earlier. The mobile app will make it easier for people to directly report any suspicious information about fraudulent activity from their mobile phone call logs and easily identify such numbers.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Identifying Fraudulent Numbers</h2>



<p>Launching the Sanchar Saathi mobile app, Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that the app will help people identify mobile numbers issued in their name. Scindia also launched two other initiatives of the Department of Telecommunications: the National Broadband Mission 2.0 (NBM) and &#8216;intra-circle roaming&#8217; on 4G mobile sites funded by the &#8216;Digital Bharat Nidhi&#8217;.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Number of Broadband Subscribers in India Increases to 94 Crore</h2>



<p>Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that the number of broadband subscribers in the country has increased to 94 crore. Over 53 crore people are also connected to electronic banking. Considering this vast network, NBM-2 has been launched. He said that by 2030, optical fibre services will be extended to 2.70 villages to expand facilities in rural areas. Similarly, people will also benefit from the intra-circle roaming facility.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Features of Sanchar Saathi</h2>



<p>Through this app, mobile users can find out if fraudulent connections have been obtained in their name and can also block them. Additionally, users&#8217; phones can be tracked. This allows you to report any kind of scam or fraud. The website version of Sanchar Saathi was launched by the Department of Telecommunications in 2023 and proved quite effective against fraudulent phone calls.</p>

CG Train Cancelled: Tata-Bilaspur Express Canceled for 15 Days


<p>CG Train Cancelled: Significant infrastructure work requiring a power block between Ranchi and Tori on the South Eastern Railway&#8217;s Ranchi division in Raigarh district, Chhattisgarh, has led to the cancellation of several trains running through the South East Central Railway. Some trains will be diverted. Consequently, the Bilaspur-Tatanagar Express from Bilaspur will be cancelled from 19 January to 2 February.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">CG Train Cancelled: Tata-Bilaspur Express Cancelled</h2>



<p>CG Train Cancelled: This will cause further inconvenience to passengers. Many long-distance passenger trains are already running late due to cold waves and other reasons. This is causing difficulties for passengers. The cancellation of trains from the Bilaspur zone will add to these difficulties. </p>



<p>Among the cancelled trains is train number 18114, the Bilaspur-Tatanagar Express, which will be cancelled from 19 January to 1 February. Similarly, train number 18113, the Tatanagar-Bilaspur Express, will be cancelled from 20 January to 2 February.</p>



<p>Furthermore, train number 13525, the Malda Town-Surat Express departing from Malda Town on 25 January, will be diverted via Kotshila-Muri-Chandil-Sini-Rourkela. Similarly, train number 07052, the Raxaul-Secunderabad Express departing from Raxaul on 21 and 28 January, will be diverted via Kotshila-Muri-Chandil-Sini-Rourkela. Passengers travelling on these trains will face inconvenience.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Local Passengers to Face Inconvenience</h2>



<p>According to passengers, the Tatanagar Express running between Bilaspur and Tatanagar carries a large number of local passengers. This cancellation will cause significant hardship for local commuters. If the railway department had operated this train between Bilaspur and Jharsuguda instead of cancelling it, it would have provided relief to local passengers. However, the 15-day cancellation will cause the most inconvenience to passengers from smaller stations. These trains typically carry passengers engaged in business in villages. They will now have to travel by road, incurring additional financial burden.</p>


<p>Among the cancelled trains is train number 18114, the Bilaspur-Tatanagar Express, which will be cancelled from 19 January to 1 February. Similarly, train number 18113, the Tatanagar-Bilaspur Express, will be cancelled from 20 January to 2 February.</p>

Actor Aman Jaiswal Dies in Road Accident at 23; Truck Driver Arrested

<p><strong>Aman Jaiswal Death:</strong> 23-year-old TV actor Aman Jaiswal died in a road accident. According to reports, a truck hit the 23-year-old actor&#8217;s bike on Friday in the Jogeshwari West area of Mumbai. He was taken to the hospital but died half an hour later. The unfortunate incident occurred on Hill Park Road in the afternoon. According to reports, the actor was returning home on his bike after shooting.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Truck Driver in Custody</h2>



<p>According to information provided by Mumbai DCP Zone 9 Dixit Gedam, the incident occurred at 3:15 pm on Hill Park Road. The accused truck driver hit the motorcyclist Aman. The victim was taken to a trauma hospital, where he died. The accused truck driver has been taken into custody. The Mumbai Police have registered a report and started an investigation into the matter.</p>

<p><strong>Saif Ali Khan Attack:</strong> Actor Saif Ali Khan is reportedly stable and recovering after an attack. He is currently receiving treatment at Lilavati Hospital. Mumbai Police are on high alert following the incident, investigating various locations and taking all necessary steps to apprehend the suspect. <p>The released image shows the alleged attacker initially wearing a yellow shirt. He was later spotted near Bandra station in different clothes. The image, reportedly from CCTV footage near Saif&#8217;s home and the Lucky Hotel area in Bandra, is timestamped at 8 am. The attacker&#8217;s appearance has changed; he is seen wearing a light blue shirt.</p>



<p>Investigating officers have obtained another CCTV footage of the suspect, dated 12 January, from the Versova area. The clip shows the suspect stealing shoes.</p>

<p>Police are reportedly questioning individuals seen roaming the area at night, as well as those with prior police records. At least 15 people were brought to the police station for questioning yesterday.</p>



<p>The image was captured on CCTV cameras while the attacker was moving between Bandra Police Station and the railway station. Police teams are intensively investigating the matter.</p>



<p>It&#8217;s been over 50 hours since the attack on Saif Ali Khan, and the police have yet to apprehend the fleeing suspect.</p>



<p>It is noteworthy that in the early hours of Thursday, a burglar, intending to steal, attacked actor Saif Ali Khan with a sharp weapon. The actor sustained injuries and was admitted to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery. His team released a statement confirming he is now out of danger.</p>

<p><strong>BCCI Introduces Disciplinary Guidelines:</strong> Following India&#8217;s disappointing performance in the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) against Australia and the preceding home Test series against New Zealand, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has swung into action. This defeat prompted a review meeting involving coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and captain Rohit Sharma. Simultaneously, the board has implemented significant changes to player welfare regulations.</p>



<p>Taking the defeat seriously, the board has established stricter rules for players. The BCCI has made it clear that any player or staff member failing to comply will face strict action. <p><strong>No Family Travel During Matches and Practice –</strong> Players must now travel only with the team for matches and practice sessions. The BCCI believes this will foster team unity. If a player&#8217;s family needs to travel with them for any reason, permission must be obtained from coach Gautam Gambhir and selector Ajit Agarkar. Violations will result in strict penalties. Virat Kohli was frequently seen travelling with his family during the Australia tour.</p>



<p><strong>Restrictions on Personal Staff –</strong> No team member can bring personal staff, including personal managers, chefs, assistants, and security personnel, on tours or during series. Recently, there was controversy surrounding coach Gautam Gambhir&#8217;s personal assistant. Previously, players like Hardik Pandya had also been in the news for bringing personal chefs.</p>



<p><strong>BCCI Will No Longer Bear Players&#8217; &#8216;Burden&#8217; –</strong> According to the new baggage policy, players will not be reimbursed for items carried within the board&#8217;s stipulated guidelines. However, players will have to pay for any excess baggage themselves.</p>

<p><strong>Mandatory Domestic Cricket –</strong> Star Indian players have avoided playing domestic cricket, including prominent names like Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, and Rohit Sharma. These players are primarily available for Team India and the Indian Premier League. Kohli and Sharma&#8217;s international form is also a concern. The BCCI wants all senior players to participate in domestic cricket. This has been made mandatory, and player selection for the Indian team will be based on this participation.</p>



<p><strong>Equipment Must Be Sent to Centre of Excellence –</strong> Players are required to coordinate with team management regarding equipment and personal belongings sent to the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Any extra costs incurred due to separate shipments will be borne by the player. Some senior players send their equipment or kits to the NCA before arriving. The Centre of Excellence then assumes responsibility for their upkeep, for which players do not pay, but this will no longer be the case.</p>



<p><strong>Mandatory Attendance at Practice Sessions –</strong> Players will no longer be excused from practice sessions. Star players often cite personal reasons for missing extended practice sessions. No player can leave practice sessions early. Exemptions will be determined based on workload management.</p>



<p><strong>Ban on Ad Shoots During Series –</strong> The BCCI has banned players from participating in personal photoshoots or ad shoots during series or tours. No player can endorse products during this time. The board made this decision to prevent distractions.</p>



<p><strong>Mandatory Participation in BCCI Official Shoots and Functions –</strong> Players must participate in all official BCCI shoots, promotions, and other programs. Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action deemed appropriate by the BCCI.</p>



<p><strong>Players Cannot Return Home Early After Series –</strong> All players must remain with the team until the end of the tour. Even if a series ends early, players must stay with the team. No player can return home early. Sometimes, players leave for home or holidays when a series ends early. This decision is in the interest of team bonding.</p>



<p><strong>BCCI Reserves the Right to Disciplinary Action –</strong> The BCCI reserves the right to take disciplinary action against any player, including banning them from participating in all tournaments organised by the BCCI, including the IPL. Further action may include deductions from central contracts, IPL retainers, or match fees.</p>

<p><strong>Delhi Assembly Election:</strong> The BJP and Congress parties are attempting to convince the public that Arvind Kejriwal cannot become the Chief Minister again. They are citing the bail conditions imposed by the Supreme Court. Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit first made this claim, and BJP leader Pravesh Verma reiterated it on Thursday. Notably, both these leaders are contesting against Kejriwal from the New Delhi constituency.</p>



<p>The former Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, is currently out on bail in connection with the liquor scam. The Supreme Court imposed certain conditions on his bail. <p><strong>Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna:</strong> Indian Grandmaster D. Gukesh was awarded the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna. President Droupadi Murmu presented the award at the National Sports Awards ceremony organised by the Ministry of Sports on Friday. </p>



<p>D. Gukesh recently created history by winning the Chess World Championship. He is the youngest chess player in the world to achieve this feat.</p>



<p>Besides Gukesh, two-time Olympic medallist shooter Manu Bhaker, men&#8217;s hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh, and Paralympic gold medal-winning high jumper Praveen Kumar were also conferred with the country&#8217;s highest sporting honour.</p>



<p>Manu Bhaker won two Olympic medals at the Paris Olympic Games in August-September. She finished third in the 10m air pistol individual and mixed doubles events. Her two medals contributed to India&#8217;s total of 6 medals at the Paris Olympics. Harmanpreet Singh, under whose captaincy the Indian hockey team won a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 and a gold medal at the Asian Games 2022, was also recognised. He was also awarded the FIH Player of the Year.</p>



<p>Praveen Kumar won a gold medal in the men&#8217;s high jump at the Paris Paralympics 2024, breaking the Asian record. He had won a silver medal at the Tokyo Paralympics. Praveen delivered a career-best performance in the T64 event, clearing a height of 2.08 metres and making history.</p>
